A more thoughtful take on the season, Lilli Lewis’s “Holiday Song” challenges traditional conventions and advocates for a holiday free from hatred, fear, vanity, and greed. The repeated plea for a simple day of peace reflects a desire to move beyond superficial gifts and festive trappings, instead emphasizing spiritual grounding. The lyrics, written by Dale Henry Geist, envision a world where material distractions are set aside, allowing humanity to connect more deeply with life itself.”

With gentle instrumentation, the song’s melody flows effortlessly. Todd Brunel’s smooth, rich clarinet evokes a deep sense of tranquility, its warm tones mirroring the longing for simplicity. The keyboard, with its ethereal chord progressions, weaves a delicate tapestry that anchors the song. And vocally, Lilli’s subtle wavering of pitch in the vibrato technique imparts the performance with warmth and passion. Altogether, they create a soundscape that perfectly complements the song’s message of creating a more meaningful holiday.

Hope you’re all enjoying a warm and peaceful holiday season. Each year I try to offer up new music, stripped down as a more intimate offering from me to you. This year is a ‘Holiday Song’ written by my friend, Dale Geist, arranged by me, and performed by myself, longtime collaborator Todd Brunel and frequent LLP organist Ross Hoppe.

It was recorded by my producer in crime, Mark Bingham, who is responsible for my last four studio releases, among many other magical things in my life. This is all to say, this humble offering is chock full of love, and I hope it brings some more of that to your lives this holiday season.
