Since the 1970s, Bill “the Coach” Mather (bass), Paul Lenart (guitar), Chuck Purro (drums), and Richard Rosenblatt (harmonica) have been more than just bandmates—they’ve been musical comrades, bound together by decades of friendship and a shared passion for creating timeless tunes. As the core of the 11th Hour Band, they hit the Boston music scene in the early ‘80s, releasing their debut album Hot Time In The City Tonight in 1985 on the then-embryonic Tone-Cool Records. Their unique sound quickly earned them a loyal following, and although they would go on to pursue various musical projects throughout the years, the “11 Guys” always found their way back to each other.
After a long hiatus, the quartet reunited in 2020 with Small Blues and Grooves, an instrumental album that soared up international charts, marking their first release in over 30 years. Not ones to rest on their laurels, they adapted to the challenges of the pandemic by diving into remote recordings, crafting a collection of 11 fresh singles—and giving each one its own distinctive video, all creatively masterminded by The Coach himself. These songs culminated in their 2023 album 11 x 11, a testament to their enduring chemistry and musical ingenuity.
Now, the 11 Guys Quartet still blaze forward, one single at a time. Their latest, “All The Things He Did To You,” features vocals from drummer Chuck Purro. It’s a blues ballad rooted in empathy and outrage, set against a minimalist, blues-driven backdrop. Purro’s voice bears witness, narrating acts of cruelty with a clarity that never sensationalizes. The repetition of the line becomes a kind of mantra—one part lament, one part protest.
